| Brazing sheet is a composite, layered material consisting of a central core alloy that is clad on one or two sides with a lower melting-point alloy to facilitate brazing. One side may be clad with a protective liner to inhibit corrosion from aggressive coolants. The central core alloy can be engineered for high strength and resistance to corrosion from road salt and chemicals. Brazing is a joining method that forms a strong, uniform, leak-proof joint. Brazing Sheet is used extensively in the following automotive heat exchangers:
| Climate Control |
Engine Cooling |
Auxiliary Cooling |
Evaporators Condensers Heater Cores |
Radiators Engine Oil Charge Air |
Transmission Oil Power Steering Fuel Cooler |
Novelis' brazing sheet is a highly engineered product requiring superior guage control capabilities, precise width tolerances and exacting chemical and physical properties. Each of these critical variables is met with industry leading technology and product development support. Novelis Fusion TM, a breakthrough process that simultaneously cast different alloy layers into a single aluminum rolling ingot, is an example of our technological leadership.
Today, virtually all heat exchangers incorporated in new vehicles are aluminum. Each offers the competitive advantage of being light weight, corrosion resistant and durable. A perfect match for today's demanding vehicle design requirements!
Novelis is proud to offer its patented X900 family of Long-Life Alloys, delivering both superior corrosion resistance and high strength. X900 is available in versions for both C.A.B. (controlled atmosphere brazing) and Vacuum Brazing.
