Business:

The Saguenay plant uses proprietary, continuous casting technology to produce hot band coils for supply to Novelis Light Gauge's Terre Haute, Fairmont and Louisville plants. All metal supplied into Saguenay comes directly as molten material from smelters in Grande-Baie, Laterriere, Arvida, and Alma. The plant produces a wide range of widths and gauges, in many different alloys, including AA-1100, AA-1200, AA-3003, and AA-5010. Specialized alloy development is also offered through Novelis technical support.

Saguenay Works is a member plant of Novelis Corp.

History:

The Saguenay plant was constructed in 1971. Saguenay Works grew quickly while continuously improving efficiencies and operating procedures, evidenced by the rise in plant production from 120,000 tonnes in the first year of operation to more than 150,000 tonnes today. The most recent expansion project, which included the installation of an additional holding/melting furnace, was completed in 1998, allowing the plant to meet growing customer demand. Notes of Interest: The plant's quality system is registered to ISO-9002 and the environmental system is registered to ISO-14001, both from the International Organization of Standardization.
